What is
"Solar Decathlon"?
The solar decathlon challenges student teams to design and build highly efficient and innovative buildings powered by renewable energy. The combined competition features two tracks, the Design Challenge, and the Build Challenge. The Solar Decathlon provides hands-on experience and unique training that prepares the competing students to enter the clean energy workforce. Our Solar Decathlon
the team works closely with a community in one of Bangkok’s oldest neighborhoods, “Talat Noi” to make sure that the most sensible and sustainable solutions are applied with the existing buildings, creating a result that would perfectly fit in any typical row houses in Thailand while preserving the city’s fine-grained urban fabric and its architectural heritage.
The word “UR-BAAN” derived from the competition’s goal that focuses on the transition of urban neighborhood whilst merging it with the word “BAAN”, a Thai word for dwelling, making it “A DWELLING FOR A CITY”.
The purpose of UR-BAAN is to reactivate the under-utilized traditional row houses often found in historic quarters of Bangkok.
